I've been reading the Old Testament and have have read about all of the different type of sacrifices and offerings the Jews gave to the Lord their God. Sacrifices such as burnt offerings, fellowship offerings and so on.
Here is my question. Why did that stop? Why are there no more offering like the Old Testament? My first thought was, "well the messiah hasn't returned, so why stop"? I've heard some people say, "well we can't do that in today's society." Why? We are taught religious tolerance so as long as it's not harming anyone, shouldn't it be accepted?
I am seriously interested in the why these offerings are no longer in existence in the Jewish tradition.

It has to do with the destruction of the temple.
The Romans destroyed the Temple in 70 AD no Temple no Sacrifice.

Forgive me if I sound ignorant as I know nothing of Judaism but wouldnt it make sense to build another temple rather than stop so many of your religious practices, or is the temple something that cannot be rebuilt until Christ comes again?

Brtizz...I will tryto explain.
Moschiach the Jewish Messiah must come first. Now, even if the Jews wanted to rebuild before that, and chose to without the Moschiach, they still couldn't do it, because the site that was appointed by God as the site of the Holy Temple has a Mosque standing in its place.

The Temple Mount is currently occupied by the Dome of the Rock and Al-Aqsa Mosque. It has been fought over for most of the last 2000 years.

Perfect. Thanks for letting me know. So basically the temple is a key component of Jewish law and without much of their practices are forced to halt until their Messiah comes. I am curious, do any Jewish sects believe in Christ? It is my understanding that not all of the Jewish leaders called for the crucifixtion of Christ either because the laws werent being properly followed in his "trial" or because they believed in him. If there are sects that believe in Christ do they follow Jewish law or Christian law - if my questions even make sense?
