I'm in an interesting spot here in Philadelphia.

I've gotten some flak from friends (mainly good-natured joshing) for my allegiance to my hometown team in this contest.

Of course, I have to maintain my composure in the face of relentless renditions of "Fly Eagles Fly" (is there any other team left in the NFL with a fight song that the fans sing?) and calls of "Go Birds!"

But I took some solace in the fact that my colleagues at Philadelphia magazine were down with the idea of my going to Big Charlie's Saloon in South Philly on Super Bowl night and writing a piece on watching the game with a bunch of Chiefs fans for the mag.

(If anyone here read 435 [now Kansas City] magazine in 2014, they might have seen my article explaining why Big Charlie's became a now-famous [and Emmy Award-winning] Chiefs bar in Eagles country. [The Emmy was for the documentary NFL Films made about the bar.])

But then Big Charlie's announced that they were going to close instead on Super Bowl night. Seems too many people had ordered the wristbands needed to enter the bar that evening, and since many regulars missed their opportunity, they decided to simply shut down.

(I suspect that a bunch of Eagles fans ordered wristbands in hopes of throwing sand in the gears of the celebration.)

So, my Plan B is to invite a few friends over to my place for a "Donna Kelce" watch party — "Donna Kelce" because, like Jason and Travis' Delaware County mom, I will be fine regardless which team wins, and anyone who comes over is welcome to root for the team of their choice.

They just need to know I will be rooting for the Chiefs that night.

(BTW, I've called Philadelphia home for nearly 40 years now, far longer than I lived in KC. But I was born and raised there — same house, same street in the East Side neighborhood of Oak Park, from birth until I left for college in 1976. Like most KC expats I've met on the East Coast, I carry a piece of Kansas City in my heart.)

No doubt this is a special era for Kansas City the Chiefs.
It’s ‘just sports’, but those have a way of instilling civic pride and putting a marker on people’s maps who otherwise would never know anything about the city.

Oh yeah… GO CHIEFS!

The Chiefs did what the Chiefs do — claw their way out of a hole in the second half.

They've become masters of this game.

Right now, I'm one of the few people smiling here in Philadelphia. (The regulars at Big Charlie's are as well, though probably from the comfort of their homes.)

Congrats Chiefs!

Not a football fan but I do watch Chief's games 4-5 times a season -- overjoyed at their win. Well done.

I like to think Mahomes "sold" the high ankle sprain re-injury real hard to get the Eagles to come out and blitz, thus leaving some open field for receivers while he scrambled and ran as usual.
