More jobs of any kind are better than no jobs, but I'm skeptical of the job quality considering the tone of the article and what this business does. These look like call center or other low level jobs in the debt collection business.

The article reads the jobs will be starting at $14/hour, which is higher than most call centers start. This is terrific news for the area, downtown and those looking for a better job.

From what I've read elsewhere, most if not all of these jobs will be full-time w/ benefits. And if they do end up w/ 350-500 employees downtown within 4 years, that could obviously be a boon for many surrounding businesses.

FWIW, the co-founder & CEO, John Kunysz, is a serial entrepreneur who's enjoyed a lot of past success.

IntelliHARTx's decision to develop a call center in downtown Kingsport won't bring typical call center wages, according to Mayor Dennis Phillips and NETWORKS Sullivan Partnership CEO Clay Walker.

"When you look at call center wages, typically they are thought of as low and many times they are," Walker said after announcing the company's decision at Tuesday's Kingsport Economic Development Board meeting. "But these are some of the higher paying call center positions they have available. These are not minimum wage jobs. They are $14-an-hour jobs."

The Findlay, Ohio-based medical collections company, founded in 2012, said it will employ 100 people within a year and forecasts between 350 and 500 new jobs within four years of opening its Kingsport "Patient Contact Center" to complement its Ohio operations.

I'm surprised that the NETWORKS partner is bragging about $14/hr jobs. While it's certainly better wages than other call centers like ACT or Citi offer, these aren't career track jobs - no one dreams of working in a call center for a decade or whatever. The area needs more quality, career track jobs, but I guess you take what you can get.

I don't think anybody dreams of working in a restaurant or at Walmart for 10+ years, either, but a lot of people do end up working in those places for that long and longer.

Believe it or not, many people never aspire to have actual careers; they're just concerned with getting by and paying the bills. A job paying $14/hr. + benefits is enough to lift oneself out of poverty and afford things you can't buy when making just $9-10/hour. And for a dual-income couple making at least that much each in this area, they could possibly move out of an apartment and buy a decent home.

Honestly as cheap as this area is to live in a $14 an hour full time job is fairly decent and can get you by. Jobs are scarce and low paid in this area, some jobs around here that are even above entry level don't pay $14 an hour. So for this area and Kingsport it's a great starter wage. Considering many jobs in the area are min wage part time, this is great news for Kingsport and the area on the job front.
