Just accepted a job at UT Medical Center.

I don't mind a commute, but no longer than 30 minutes. We are looking for advice on areas to live. Preferably a couple acres and privacy. We don't want a subdivision type neighborhood.

Home budget is approximately $350k.

Any suggestions?

It sounds like Lakemoor Hills is just what you are looking for. It's an upscale area a mile from UTMC. Many houses have huge lots and plenty of privacy.

Right now there is road construction but when that is finished the commute will be a breeze. I don't know that it has much crime but if you are worried you can get a burglar alarm.

Congratulations, noahj3906. I agree with Creeksitter that Lakemoor Hills is a nice area.

If you don't want a subdivision, also check out Powell area. Schools aren't bad there and acreage is more plentiful -- and look on Maloney Rd area in Knoxville -- as well as Brown School Rd area of Maryville (really good schools).

Kathy, note that the OP didn't say anything about kids. I agree that Maryville has the best schools but that may not be an issue.

If the OP wants a more rural/pastoral feel they could look at the area south of John Sevier highway.

Parts of Lakemoor Hills look like a large lot subdivision but you can find houses that are very private. When you use Zillow and hone in on an area you'll see the lot sizes.

If you want to be more out in the country, you could look south of town towards Rockford. It is on the north side of Maryville.

I would suggest you plan a house hunting trip to get familiar with the various areas around Knoxville and see what appeals to you and your spouse. Maybe get a rental for a period of time as you get to know the area better. There is a lot more to consider beside commute time lot size and budget IMO. I was retiring and was able to make several extended visits exploring the area. Working at the UTMC I'd be looking along I 75 north of town or down along Rt 129 south of town.

Good suggested areas, but Rt129 is currently under construction so don't let that turn you away (since it is temporary).
