I have visitors coming in a week and they mentioned they would like to ride a steam train. I haven't been on any of the trains so I have no idea which ones to suggest (Chattanooga isn't too far if that's a better option). Any suggestions?

I'm sure by now you've found the Chat RR museum runs trains out of Etowah. I've been on the Hiwassee gorge one for the fall colors. The Copper Hill trip is bound to be interesting.

Smoky Mountain RR out of Bryson city. We did the dinner train in Chatt and it was really lame. Food wasn't very good either. We also did a ride in the Cumberland mountains, that was good.

Ah... so when it says museum, it's not just a museum but a ride as well? I Googled a list of trains but then found the info confusing. What is the Smoky Mountain RR, NJDevil? I don't see it listed here.

It looks like Chattanooga Choo Choo is a hotel, but it's a dinner train ride?
The Secret City Train is no more, correct?
Do all the train museums have rides also?

The Chattanooga Choo Choo is a hotel correct, but the dinner train ride is different. You can ride the Tennessee Valley Railroad.https://www.tvrail.com Personally I like the one in Bryson City, They have several rides and destinations to choose from.

Yes, Bryson City train ride is great! It will be hot and sticky though on any of them.
