Reading this story in this morning's news, I find it very disheartening that the city council and mayoral candidates for the city of Knoxville are so quick to infringe upon our rights which are supposed to be sacrosanct as defined in the Second Amendment of our constitution. I understand the candidates were all likely pandering to some degree to the views of the person asking the questions, but still...if I were living in Knoxville and could cast my vote there, none of these candidates would receive a vote from me.

Lol. Not even Antonin Scalia thought 2A meant there could be zero laws restricting gun use.

People who use words like "sacrosanct" in this conversation are probably going to be very disappointed about developments that unfold in the next few years. Walmart's just the start.

Im curious what you are opposed to? I can understand they don't want gun sales in City Owned property. I don't think that is unreasonable.

Legal firearms shows and sales on city owned property should not be treated any differently than any other legal commerce that is permitted to rent the space and turn a profit. If the city of Knoxville wanted to preclude the use of city property for all for-profit endeavors, I could see the reasoning behind that. If the city chose to reserve their venues for only non-profit organizations, that would be even handed. To single out one legal enterprise which is of interest to many of the citizens in and around Knoxville is simply catering to special interests.

Let the city of Knoxville rent the space to whomever is willing to pay for the space. If the entity renting the space is unpopular with the area residents, that will be reflected by poor turnout and lack of support for the event.

Ahh, but that is free enterprise within a Constitutional framework. A market-driven approach.

Today is all about agenda, socialism, and BIG Government telling everyone else how to live their lives. The Nanny State. A "do as I say, not as I do" philosophy.

Your approach assumes that people can run their own lives with limited assistance and interference. The Left doesn't like that. I'm sure the local pro-leftist will chime in soon with how the City has a right to discriminate if they want to do so.

I confess, I really don't know what the official policy currently is about City Owned properties. I'm pretty sure the gun show people could find a non city owned property to rent, should this policy ever go into effect.
I'm also pretty sure the Mayor alone can not just make a policy like that.

Gun shows will likely continue to go on. Its just such a hot topic, someone thought it would be a good idea to throw it out to the candidates. With just about any hot topic, there will be those that are full on behind it, and others that are outraged. Each side calling the other names.
