We're coming back to look at Knoxville area in a couple weeks. How hard is it for retirees to find decent doctors in Knoxville and surrounding areas? I know in many places, including where we live now, it can be really tough finding doctors that will accept new medicare patients. Thanks for any advice!

Hubby's been on Medicare for a couple years now and have never been turned down by anyone for having Medicare. We have supplemental also. We use University Tennessee healthcare system, and it's never even been an issue at all.

Thank you for that reply! Does that system accept new medicare members? Reason for asking is several groups around us are not accepting new members any more

I'm sure they are. University of TN is a big teaching hospital and their medical group has several satellite clinics beyond the hospital. We are patients at the nearest satellite clinic and hubby has a PC and 3 or more specialists he sees (all in the UT medical group) and has never had anyone turn him away because he went to Medicare a couple years ago. Maybe that happens more in the big cities. Here. I've only had 1 or 2 docs say they weren't taking new patients, and that was before asking about my insurance.

Last year my wife had surgery on her arm by an oncological surgeon at the UT hospital in Knoxville and there was no problem with them accepting Medicare for that

I’m about fours hours SW of Knoxville in an Ag county. We have never had problems being accepted due to being on Medicare; not in our county nor the surrounding counties where we might need use of a medical facility.

To the contrary, we have a supplement that picks up 100% of the 20% Part B doesn’t cover. Soon as the A/R employees (at the medical facilities) hear that, they are standing at the door waiting with roses, lollol
