Boring as it is, I'll chance it and start it off. I had a friend I worked with in TV back in Clarksburg, West Virginia, who moved here in 1963. He had family here. The following year his then wife came home for a visit and started telling my then wife and I how great it was here. I was making all of $375.00 a month so it wasn't hard to get my attention when she told us about how easy jobs were to find here. A couple of weeks later we packed our belongings into a small U-haul trailer and headed west. First I had to look up Las Vegas in the encyclopedia because I had no idea where it was, or even what state it was in. Then, of course, I had to find Nevada on the map as no one back east knows where it is either. I owned one of the first small cars, a 1962 Dodge Lancer, that we fitted three adults, a baby, and a blind cat into. It was mid July, and of course cars back east didn't have A/C in those days. Good thing we were young because I'm sure I couldn't make a trip like that today with no A/C.

It took me a month to find a job and I was scared to death. Then I got a call from Channel 2 (which later became Ch 3) and I was so happy I celebrated all night. Next day I was too sick to go to work (remember I was young, and in the big city for the first time), so I had our friend call KORK-TV (now KVBC) to tell them I got sick and would be in tomorrow. Of course, she called KORK-AM instead to tell them Buzz wouldn't be in. They were a bit confused since their Buzz (Jones) was already at work. A few hours later the guy I was replacing came to my door to see what had happened. He was worried because he couldn't leave town until he had someone to replace him. Anyway, it all worked out and here I is, 43 years later; and I'm glad I came.

I had been trying to get a job at various hotels in the cage. The Sahara had showed me a stack of telegrams that they had received while investigating me and I was anxious to work for them as it paid better than TV did. About a month after I went to work at the TV station, my friend asked me if I had ever heard from the Sahara as they had called his house to offer me a job. I had given them his number and forget to change it when I got my own place. I often wonder how different my life would have been if I had given the Sahara my new phone number.

Let's see. My girlfriend (now my wife) brought me here for my birthday 5 years ago, and I remembered how nice the weather was (Memorial Day). Since then we have gotten married here (Aladdin) and we have come out here about a dozen times since that first visit. We have visited numerous other cities that we considered relocating only to find that Vegas offers everything we were looking for in terms of benefits:

1. Gambling
2. Warm weather
3. Golf year round

The additional benefits we have found not disclosed were how friendly the people are in the area. It's a great town, and we are very happy here.

My husband and I were relo's with the company we worked for about 3 1/2 years ago. We were already frequent visitors and loved Vegas.

The relo didn't work out & neither one of us work for that company any more. But we have a beautiful home in a great neighborhood, find the people to be very friendly, and of course we all know the weather is great and there's plenty to do

I do miss family though. Everyone is back East and I only get to see them once a year if that - which was my reason for looking at places back there to possibly move back to. But after researching for a few months, we're not sure the trade offs to go back permanently would be worth it and at this point are not looking to leave but probably will downsize here eventually.

I think Las Vegas/Henderson has pretty much everything someone could want whether you're single or raising a family.

I've been a part time resident for decades. I watched over my elderly aunt and uncle. Helped them with things around the house they couldn't take care of. Whatever they needed so they could continue to live independently. At the same time I was also caring for my parents in my other home. Now they are all gone except for my mom who is in an assisted living center in Texas. I no longer have a home in Vegas.

About 15 years ago we realized we just counted the days till our next visit. Vegas was where we really wanted to live. Then RE started booming and for a while we were priced out of the market. We looked every place we could think of with reasonable housing and nothing could compete. Over time things changed and now there are lots of homes we can afford. Now we can't sell the house we have! Just another craptastic turn of events. But we will prevail and make it to Vegas. Just don't know when.

Las Vegas was always more than we expected. Great weather and always things to do. You never have to cook unless you just want to. Yard work was a few weeds to pull and a couple gallons of roundup every year. Still sounds great to me. And there are lots of friendly, nice people in Vegas!

My uncle was a chef at Bally's/MGM Grand till he retired. Every time I looked in his fridge it was always the same. Booze, mixers, water, ice, and cigarettes. That's it!

Can't wait to get back to Vegas for good! See ya over Thanksgiving!

Default Ready to leave

I moved here in 2000. It was much cheaper then than it is now. I guess I am just tired of it all. Everything revolves around a casino it seems. Go to a movie, you have to go through a casino, etc. The mentality here is take, take, take. It is a fun place to visit, but live here? It gets old..........
