Thought I'd add remote control to my pool/spa. My pool guy says he can install the entire system for $1500. Have no idea if this is a good price or not. It will allow me to turn on and off the lights, turn on heater, air bubbler, water feature etc. from a remote control in the house instead of having to go out and turn valves as well as flip switches. Just wondering if anyone who has a similar system think it's worth it or not. Thanks.

You are paying $1500 for a matter of small convenience. It does nothing for automation of the pool maintenance. The would be thing like a salt water pool or auto chlorination or such.

The only real thing you get worth anything is you don't have to go out to the pool equipment area to turn on the spa. Hit a couple of buttons and in a half hour you got a nice spa all ready.

If I was building one from scratch I might go for it. Otherwise...???

It's worth it if it makes your spouse happy.

Agreed. And if you like it too get Macgeek or someone to automate it so it has the spa hot at the right time each evening...then you do not even have to remember to turn it on.

I just did mine. Your price seems very low. I paid $3200.

I looked online for the price of the unit which came in at about $1800 and another $550 for the controller. He had to also run stuff to the breaker box too. Works great though and no more screwing around with complicated levers etc.

$1500 is low, but it can be done with used or obsolete automation. $3000 is about right for a Pentair intellitouch or comparable system.

Thanks guys for the info. I'll go with it for that price as long as it's guaranteed. I think there's a shakeup about to happen in pool stores. Word's out days are numbered for NPS.

Make sure it has the freeze protection option. Turns your pump on when the temp gets near freezing. Also most have pool spa temp indicators too.

I have two homes one with the X-10 wireless remote with Jandy valves and the other is the full Jandy Aqualink system. The X-10 system works great but no frost protection. Also the X-10 system is hard to get as it appears to be discontinued but it is cheap.

The Aqualink system is great and it nice to see the pool and spa temp inside the home. Makes it easier to heat from inside too.

I had mine done with Intellitouch 8 system a year ago. I would definitely say it's worth it. I also got the add on for smart phones. Sweeeet!

P.S.- Mine was $1500 because it was an upgrade of my compool automated system. The Pentair controller just plugged in where the compool was.

We upgraded an older 16-function Aqualink system which was malfunctioning frequently to a new 16-function iAqualink 2.0 system from Zodiac last July. The installed cost was a little over $1,100 from Leslie's which was the best price I got from several Zodiac vendors I contacted in town. While it took a few visits from Leslie's and a Zodiac rep to get everything working perfectly, it has been working quite well for over a year now. I particularly like the mobile app which can be used from my smartphone as well as the Web interface where I can program the equipment. This has been especially helpful in being able to set programming times and speeds for our variable speed pumps which are wired directly to the iAqualink system.
