We are renting a house right now in the Desert Shores area. We came from LA and although I don’t need to live in a super busy area it’s just a little too suburban for me, but it’s important that it’s safe and a lot of people we know are telling us that there are no good options for middle class renters (wanna pay less than $2500 for 2-3 bedrooms) unless we stay really far out. We are both night owls, because we both work for ourselves we are in the habit of sleeping during the day and staying up at night and like to do things like go jogging at 2am and it’s important that is reasonably safe.

I think you’re best off where you are. Desert Shores is very nice and it’s an easy drive to Downtown and The Strip.

If you can rent in a gated community, it might be safer to jog inside the gated area at 2 am. What do you consider "really far out"? Areas like Providence in the northwest corner of Vegas are less populated and seemed safer to me than some other areas here. I live in 89052, it seems pretty safe, but I don't go out at the hours you are talking about. The bad actors are looking for targets everywhere at that time of day. Every city has the same issues with crimes of opportunity happening then.

I agree, I think Desert Shores is one of the nicest areas in Vegas. I'd eat at Marche Bacchus more often if I lived closer.
