I relocated from Las Vegas to Philly April 2022. I was a member of Las Vegas Athletic Club (LVAC). I had a contract whereby I got an annual renewal fee of $125. Unfortunately, I was under the impression that I had the option to not renew and that was that. However, 15 months later, I get an email from LVAC stating I have a "past due renewal balance" of $250. I got out my contract (I kept it) and it does state in some ambiguous terms that memberships with a renewal must cancel to exit the contract... and that you cannot cancel unless your account is paid in full.

Now, my question is that it appears Nevada state law limits contracts to two years from the execution date. My execution date was 4/2015, way longer ago than two years.

Am I interpreting the statute correctly? Any comments are appreciated. Here is the statute:

NRS 598.880  Limits on contracts for membership.  A contract for membership in an organization must not:
1.  Require payments or financing by the buyer for more than 2 years from the date the contract was executed;

Called LVAC this morning first thing, with some persistence, I finally got through to an agent. He said he would cancel my membership and send me a confirmation via email within 48 hours. So now I wait to see if I'm really done with the contract. I guess the details should be in the email. It's interesting to see the way they show my balance online:

Current Due Renewal Due Total Owed
$0.00 $250.00 $0.00
