We have a number of friends who store their trucks/5th wheels and snow bird it all over the US during winter in their country and those who enjoy spending time with friends and family for a prolonged period of time.

so they're essentially burdening other people just to live large in the US. how do they finance all that if not staying with family/friends?

I do not understand who they burden. They enjoy traveling but prefer their own surroundings in form of 5th wheel or coach which they store during their non-US time. Most of them retired in their early 50s to be able to enjoy life while they are physically able to do so.

You can find seasonal housing at the E-point Student Center. I suffered a few days until I found this organization.
