A bit of history. Canada was the first country to introduce a point based immigration system in 1967. Australia formalized their system in 1989.

Here's a BBC article about point systems if anyone is interested.

That's not my take.

I think where people get their knickers in a twist ( I'm bring that saying back LOL ) is the hypocrisy of letting illegals stay and even giving them certain benefits, and then after they have worked and built lives, talk about kicking them out.

The racism charge seems to be the stopping of people who look " Mexican " and asking for ID etc. Or just targeting certain groups. When was the last round up of illegal Canadians?

This actually happened once to me on a bus to San Diego. Armed personal came on the bus, and only asked "Mexican" looking people for ID. Me, being blonde, they didn't ask. Not only did I feel for the Americans of Latino descent having to put up with this, but it also struck me that I worked with a woman from Mexico back in Canada who had blonde hair. She didn't fit the stereotype.

The whole incident just struck me as wrong on so many levels.

They took away no one, which of course means, American citizens, or people legally allowed to be there were asked " for their papers ".
