If we keep increasing legal immigration, how long will it be until we are a country of 1 billion people and not enough potable water? You know, like India. With all those people India has, have they "raised revenues"?
There wouldn't be an influx of 600mm + people, the question was increase not unlimited.
Tryin' to get a rise out of us 'Native Americans', eh?
The main argument vs unfettered or excessive immigration is the ability to absorb foreign cultures that can often be AT ODDS and in direct opposition to american-western democratic ideals.
We imperil our values as many cultures are not as "considerate" of our tolerant attitudes, for example towards honosexuality or women's equality.
We must never allow those to enter our borders in such numbers, like a Trojan Horse, who would then destroy the very liberalism that let them in!
Illegal immigration could be stopped virtually ovenight if the punishment for EMPLOYING illegals was EXPENSIVE, EXTENSIVE, and ENFORCED.
But the dems don't wanna lose the votes and the repubs don't wanna lose the cheap labor.
And the border patrol doesn't wanna lose their jobs!
In the meantime the rest of America loses respect for the law and our phony leaders.

By Native American I hope you are of Indian decent.

Good grief! You missed the point.
Of course 600 million won't show up at once. However, over time, with increased legal immigration we will reach the point of over saturation. As I mentioned, we are already running out of potable water and not to mention buildable land. Our infrastructure is crumbling and the money isn't there to fix it, let alone add more.

We aren't anywhere close to running out of build-able land. When you make things up like this or a population tripling it weakens your attempted point. If Americans weren't so wasteful water wouldn't really be an issue now, we waste way too much as is
I am all for increasing legal immigration to somewhere less than the total of illegal and legal immigration is today. Our birthrate is such that we need more workers capable of doing productive jobs that that increase the amount going into programs such as Social Security.
But first, the illegal immigration has to be brought under control. Once that is done, those seeking to immigrate would only do so if the jobs were here waiting for them. It would cut down on the number of people coming here looking for a handout.
Having the experience of having my husband come here legally, jumping the hoops, paying the fees, etc. it was ridiculous to know that while he passed his background check and brought his lung X-ray in hand, thousands were sneaking over without our government caring about any health concerns or criminal record.
Once the open wound on our border is closed, I would be all for allowing a more generous immigration policy as long as it was responsible, strict and FAIR. There are people all over the world who are waiting patiently for years and obeying the law. But first things first, and more legal immigration shouldn't be on the table until they get their act together and stop the madness at the southern border.

That's my 2 cents
How long did the process take start to finish for your husband and do you have an estimated total cost?
Raise? I propose severely reducing legal immigration to practically negligible levels. And even then you would need to have some sort of special skill or trade. No more hordes of illiterate 3rd world peasants from Latin America, Africa, or Asia.
Oh yeah and a total ban on work visas ... again, unless you have some sort of special skill or trade. And even then Americans come first. A tech firm would not be allowed to hire Indians on visas just because they can get away with paying them less ... they would have to actually prove that no qualified Americans applied for the job.

Yep. He/She believes the government is right in getting between an employer willing to hire someone, and that someone also willing to work for the employer. Big government lovers
