I went back to La Placita. They do have large bins of dried peppers, but sadly no anchos. They told me to go somewhere that sounded like "Ayhart's market on 14th St," but I drove the full length of 14th St and there's no market with a name like that, so either I misunderstood them or they had the street wrong.

A-Hart's Market. It is between 14th and 15th next fronting Allen Street . It was about 1000 yards from La Placita (to the north west of La Placita).
A-Hart's is in a shopping plaza with a Family Dollar, but the business's facing 14th street are SMILE CLEANERS, D & M NAILS, and EZ CASH.

There is also an A-Hart's in South Bethlehem if that is closer. It is not specifically a Latino supermarket, but they are often in Latino neighborhoods where there are no Giant or Weiss supermarkets.

Back from Ahart's in Allentown. I would definitely say it had a better Hispanic selection than any of the other places I've been, including La Placita. Found my ancho chiles, too. Be aware that there are two locations for dried ingredients - up front with the produce and toward the back along the Goya aisle - so look both places.

That Allen Street shopping center with Ahart's and Food Dollar is vital to center city Allentown. The only other shopping center within a relatively easy bus ride is Aldi's on 7th street just south of route 22.

Regency Centers owns and manages Allen Street with Ahart's, Stefko Blvd with Valley Farm Market in Bethlehem, and Nazareth Commons with Wegman's in between Easton and Nazareth.

Allen Street Shopping Center has 15,770 houses & 44,137 people in a mile radius.
Stefko Blvd Shopping Center has 6,756 houses & 15,665 people living in a mile radius.
Lower Nazareth Commons has 681 houses & 1,774 people living in a mile radius.

If you hear that expression, it's expensive to be poor, then grocery shopping is a great example. You have huge numbers of people with limited access to supermarkets, that must shop in high priced convenience stores.
