My husband and I just purchased an 1100 sq foot (not including the basment) ranch house in Lynbrook. We got our first quote this week and it seemed pretty high, so I'd like to get some opinions from everyone. We need duct work, which I know obviously raises the price, but we are not even getting ac in the basement and they quoted us at $7200 or $9000 for the more efficient, $1500 tax rebate one. Seems pretty high to us. Thoughts?
Thanks for your help. Also, if anyone got a better rate, please let me know what company you used.
Yup, seems high to me for a 3 ton unit in a ranch house. A ranch is the easiest home to install a.c. Shop around or get someone who does it on the side.
Where you located? I know several people who do ac's on the weekend. A ranch will take about 7 hours to be up and running.
well it cost me 3grand for forced air heat replacement no ducts just the unit. I can see 7 if it includes adding ducts through the whole house. I was also told a high efficiency unit to replace my airconditioning outside unit would be $5k to replace just replacing the ducts. so your quote sounds right to me.
The lower number sounds about right. Usually the handler and pump run about $4000 to install by themselves. So not knowing how much labor is associatated with the ductwork then the numbers sound about right.
Our attic is completely empty since we just moved, so the ducting would be easy. Paying $3000-$5000 for labor seems insane, especially since we're not even putting the AC in the basement! The company said they could knock it out in a day. I don't know...just seems really high to us for such a tiny house. We need to get more estimates and see what the deal is.
Estimates are free so why not.In 2006 we used Polar Bear Air in Coram and they were in and out in one day, extremely clean and we have no complaints. We have a split level home and for $6000 they did 3 Bedrooms,a bath,LR ,kitchen and 24'x25' den.Good luck but I will tell you doing it was worth $10000.
