Where would you move to now that you wouldnt have considered years ago.

What towns would you avoid that used to be nice?

I remember when Long Beach was falling apart although not nearly as bad as it was depicted in the movie City By The Sea. Once the city council & the police department got on the same page, they cleaned it up nicely.

I thought Freeport might follow suit but it never really did.

I was in college when City By the Sea came out...when my roommate found out that it supposedly took place in the same town I was from, he had some fun with that...until a few days later, when I found out it was filmed in NJ, about ten minutes away from his hometown.

I had a good laugh about that one, too.

Yeah, from what I hear, Long Beach was quite the run-down shack until about twenty years ago, and now...well, if Brian Lehrer says it's up-and-coming, well, then it must be, because he would never lie to me.

Its meant to be constructive.
Towns fall asleep sometimes.

Truth be told Rocky Point was asleep in the 90s (huge renatal community/slumlords etc)and it took alot of hard work from the Civic to turn it around...now its a great place to live.

I think this is a healthy dialogue...its not meant for chestbeating or posturing.

We can kill the thread if all agree.

In western nassau, can't off th etop of my mind think of any that really got better, but can think of 1 that got worse: South Floral Park. I've been doing homecare in that area for 10 years, and it was always a well kept mainly minority community. Now more of the houses are in disrepair, and a lot of early 20's, teenagers walking or bicycling around the area apparently selling dope (winter jackets on in 90 degree weather?) Its a shame to see that area go downhill.

You could not get me to live in Elmont if it were Free! I grew up across from Belmont racetrack and it has changed so much that I hardly recognize it. Unfortunately, most who own businesses there, live far from it. It used to be a town where the deli owner walked down the street to his house. Not so any more. And a shame, because I have fond memories.

Elmont is pretty rough now.
