Taxes in Syosset are generally higher than Jericho and prices in Jericho are generally higher that Syosset. But on paper, Jericho schools are higher ranked. Some properties in Jericho, especially the East Birchwood section has their kids paying Syosset taxes and attending Syosset schools.

Aren't those residents paying higher property prices because they live in the town of Jericho and also pay higher property taxes because they attend Syosset schools?

Doesn't make any sense why they would voluntarily do that does it? Tax difference might not be great, but it's still the worse of the 2 cases for both.

The opposite end of the spectrum is living in Hicksville and going to Syosset schools. Winners there. There's a pocket on South Oyster Bay Rd and the houses don't look all that different from Syosset.

Not really. Outside of the school taxes there isn't that much of a difference between taxes in Jericho and Syosset. The Nassau County taxes and the Town of Oyster Bay taxes are pretty much the same for each (with perhaps some small variance in Special district taxxes).

So someone in the Syosset school district portion of Jericho will pay higher property taxes than someone in Jericho that is in the Jericho school district (assuming similar home values), however they are unlikely to pay higher property taxes than someone living in Syosset with Syosset schools.

.

The Town of Oyster Bay does not assess taxes separately. Nassau County is the taxing authority for all properties in Nassau; Villages have their own taxes on top of County Taxes.
The difference is in the School (District) taxes.

In Suffolk County, each Town assesses taxes (not the County).

Nassau County does assess all properties in Nassau, however you still do pay taxes to the Towns.

Best deal is Island Trees Schools in Seaford. Half the taxes as Seaford SD and smaller district with just as good a rating.
