I ended up returning the ring doorbell to Costco for a refund, yes after one year - Costco is great for that.

I wanted the camera to record someone coming up my driveway and onto my front porch. Instead this Ring camera would start recording after they left my front porch and were walking down my driveway. What's the use if you can't get a look at the person's face. Ring support blamed it on my router and WIFI which is 8' away, (the same WIFI that streams movies into my house.)

Secondly my promotional plan ran out after a year and now I needed to pay them a yearly fee to view "delayed videos".

Screw that!
as other mentioned I will look into the Wyze cameras. Would be interested in getting a SD card as well.
Was the Ring doorbell powered via your old circuit or battery powered?

Have the Ring floodlight/camera in the backyard.
Had some issues over the past few years with the device capturing motion in the dark. Wrote their customer support team, they have been responsive and fixed the issue quickly (this was before they were purchased by Amazon) .
It's a great product with a nice android app. Really like it.

It was battery powered. Had to recharge it about once a month.

That was likely part of your problem unfortunately. There are new ones now that are solely powered by the old doorbell circuit and can detect people almost immediately. Plus they use 5Ghz WiFi less susceptible to interference.

I have the same problem with outdoor battery-powered cameras - to conserve battery they take a few seconds to capture and reconnect.

We just got Eufy cams to replace an old hard wired security system. They have a device that works like Ring but it stores data on an SD card so you don't have to pay for data storage unless you want to.

It's just as well you returned it - they issued a recall on the Ring 2 last month due to a potential fire hazard: https://www.cpsc.gov/Recalls/2020/ri...to-fire-hazard

Looks like the fire issue involved installation errors not the device itself.

The battery ones suck. I have a old one I use as a camera in my backyard. I ran a line to it, it trickle charges the battery now. The doorbell pro only hardwired is very good.

I have Nest cams and nest hello doorbell. I like them because they film constantly 24/7, the downside is they are hardwired only.

I agree Nest much better than Ring due to 24/7.
