Go pissup a tree.
The vast majority of the country, and indeed the world, is subject to natural disasters. Some more than others of course. But where draw the line? Moving everyone away from the coasts, river flood plains, tornado alleys, hurricane prone areas, unstable geological faults prone to earthquakes, volcanos, etc. would be impossible. Thankfully, deaths and destruction from natural disasters has been going down over time in the first world, owing mainly to improved building codes, disaster detection technology, transportation, etc.

Anywhere that is prone to major and frequent disasters should be buy at your own risk. Period.
Tax payers should not be contributing to rebuilding your home. Sorry. Too bad.
Buy enough insurance or make sure you have enough in the bank to self insure but don’t be looking to me or other tax payers.

Oh yeah and i should not suffer increasing insurance premiums because of some dumb ass either. If someones house gets wiped out frequently let them pay more, why should it be spread out? Why am I being punished?

So what is contributing to the destruction along our coastlines up and down the east coast, the last decade is not the norm. More violent storms, increase in sea level, the restoration after Sandy was gone in less than a decade. How much longer are we going to use sand as a solution.

Well I don’t think those wealthy douche nozzles want a concrete coast, so sand it is.

Shoreline armoring destroys the shore. Every time one oceanfront property armors with bulkhead, sea walls, or the like, the wave energy has to go somewhere, so open beaches down the line get slammed more than usual.

On the bay side, we've filled in and developed so much of the salt marsh that there is no more buffer between sea and civilization, which is why there is so much flooding in the low-lying areas and why these houses get pounded with every storm. We had natural buffers and shock absorbers for wave activity but we got rid of them.

Well retreating might be a good idea, some communities in Brooklyn retreated after Sandy and surrendered. Putting sand on beaches every few years to shore up homes is madness.

Yet the "elites" keep building homes on waterfront property. They don't seem to be worried about climate change, so why should I?

As the previous poster said, build at own risk.
