The gay scene in LA is nothing special. Its comparable to basically any other big city like NY or DC (not that familar w Chicago). Unless youre looking for work in the entertainment industry, nothing about the scene really stands out IMO.

The scene is a little more snobby and “basic” IMO. Im sure youd notice a difference compared to a working class city like Chicago. Dive bars are basically non-existent in LA, Ive learned for example.

It's a lot bigger than DC. Much like Chicago (and unlike NY) LA does have a large gayborhood. Santa Monica Blvd from Robertson to Fairfax is very gay. Most of the men walking on the street there will be gay, particularly in the western end. The side streets north and south are populated by 50% gay men (at least). You won't find this in most other big cities.
There are gay dive bars though they tend not to be in West Hollywood - except Gold Coast. There are some in the SFV.

Mike Bonin is gay and his husband is also gay. L.A. seems to be worth it for them, OP, so there you go.

I have a few friends who just moved out that way (Santa Monica and OC). Im looking at Columbus, Oh (the gay mecca of Ohio) and other places as well. My concern: is LA worth moving all the way across the country for?! Its expensive there and that concerns me. If I can get a big gay community in Columbus for half the cost of living as LA, it makes more sense for me to do that, and still be closer to family. It doesnt have the Beach and year round nice weather. So i guess I need to figure out if the weather/beach lifestyle is worth it for the $$$ and move out there. Any thoughts on the gay scene in LA? Ive heard its very hard to date and meet guys because of all the attitude and that the guys are judgemental and shallow. Sorry to sound so blunt but that is what i have heard! This is all hearsay of course. Any insight into LA life in general and specifically for gay men would be nice. Thank you!
Welcome in advance, If you decide to relocate here.
It is expensive, crowded and the traffic is horrible here. Unless you have a job too good to pass up the state is no longer so golden.
No. Not really worth it IMO.

If you prefer to date white men, don't even think about moving to Los Angeles.

*********r orientation. Living here is only worth anything if you have the drive to succeed. Your preference is irrelevant if you can't make it here.

I ended up in Chicago! Though I do love to visit LA. Chicago has been a great move. Maybe Southern CA will be a retirement spot in PS!
