I found an apartment at Coldwater Cyn ave at Riverside. The advertisement says Sherman Oaks, but map says Sherman Village. And it does border Valley Village. Can someone tell if this particular area is OK? Is it proper Sherman Oaks? Is is safe and nice? Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ha!..every week they come up with new names for the areas all over the valley.

Call them anything you want..they're all part of the city of L.A...but the area you mentioned is generally nice.

I know, seriously!

I live on the border of Northridge and North Hills. I guess we can call this area "North Rills". I grew up in a much larger version of North Hollywood, but it was kinda sorta near the Burbank city limits. Toluca Valley anyone?

I have a feeling at a certain point, none of these area names are going to matter anymore and everyone is just going to start putting "Los Angeles, CA" on all their mail.

i was out and about yesterday and saw a neighborhood sign that said "Reseda Ranch". it seems like they'll let any area change their name. i wonder if the city would allow me to change my neighborhood to "Awesomeville".

I walk up there. It's pretty good. Typical mix of people for the Valley in the apartments. Everyone from young professionals to young families to immigrants from all over. The houses seem to be mostly middle aged whites and their families.

FYI, I looked into this when I first saw it and it seems that it was done to preserve larger lots in Reseda. Some houses are agriculturally zoned and they felt they were in danger of being taken over by apartment builders, so the northwestern part of Reseda renamed itself "Reseda Ranch" to preserve their agricultural roots.

Or something like that.

I still can't explain "Rancho Cascades" in Sylmar though...
