No you don't need $350k...350k Is for PEASANTS add a zero then you can live it up! 3.5million

All joking aside it really depends. It's all relative.

I think 350k is a bit extreme , but maybe not too far off for a family that is living in one of the nicest parts of L.A .
Especially factoring in private schools, etc .

And the article does say a Family of 4 ... not a single person or couple.

This makes me feel really poor though I do have to say.

Hard to say the exact amounts, but if are buying let's say a 1.2million house the payment for that right there alone is going to be like $6000 . That's not including utilities , taxes, etc.

Food, a house keeper (you're living well right), some new nice cars + the insurance and gas

Eating out often or buying groceries from "good markets" like Whole Foods.

Vacations, ETC ETC ETC

The 350k amount really might not be that far off....

Face it..most of us in this city are struggling , not really LIVING WELL...

Of course some of these people are more miserable than those making min wage.

Yes, exactly this.

A family of four in an affluent part of LA, like, Brentwood or Encino, would need around 350k a year to maintain a certain lifestyle.

Eating out, vacations, private schools, medical expenses, car, the list goes on.

But the vast majority of people don't make 350k. 350k a year is definitely in the top 5% of LA income (and maybe 1-2% nationally). So it's only if you want to live an upper middle class lifestyle with a family of four.

Complete nonsense. 350K is probably in the top 1% of LA income, since the median income (middle point of the distribution) is 56,266.

$350k is like the combined income of five adults.

Article is stupid.

You can make 50k in LA and live decently.

NYC on the other hand, I'd agree with the article.

If you want comfort in NYC, you seriously need 200k+ and I'm not kidding.

I was making a little over 100k when I lived in NYC and I was literally living in poverty.

Lets not exaggerate ,The only way you should have been living in Poverty on 100k is if u have six figure school loans, forced yourself to live in Manhattan, and had car note in the 4-500 range, pay child support, and was dating or out drinking 3-4 nights a week.

NYC is the biggest rip off in the country no doubt, but 100k will not put you in poverty in any city in this country
