Bump. I'm moving from Austin to Long Beach as well, but for my girlfriend. I know Long Beach pales in comparison because I have been there a few times already and the only relief I found was flying back from there. It wasn't just Long Beach though, it was all of LA. Anyways, these posts are 6 years old. Has much changed since then? There are still gangs there, I know, but what about the infrastructure of the city?

I want to move to Long Beach and yes stay away from the Northern part. But they have nice neighborhoods but housing costs is crazy expensive now. Check agents in the area they will help you navigate the area. I heard Austin is getting crazy expensive and traffic is horrible.

Ditto the above. Get an agent who really KNOWS the area. There are some great areas and some not so great.HARDCORE gangs. But there's tons of nice places too. Just do your homework and don't join a gang and you should be okay!
