I really don't understand all the hatred for indoor malls. The WS Pavillion, like many malls, has natural lighting from above. Furthermore, not only can you shop there when it rains and avoid getting drenched, you're also protected from high winds, bitter cold, and sunburns.

BTW, do you indoor mall haters sleep outside in your backyards, or do you spend most of your leisure time inside where you're protected from the elements? I do wonder...

You can shop when it rains? Lol!!! You're kidding. Bitter cold? Ok.: I would say this in Chicago, DC, St. Louis or Minneapolis but not LA. There was no excuse for this out of date eyesore. Never did it ever reinvent itself like Century City or Third Street Promenade or the successful Grove. Instead it slowly deteriorated into what it is today. Good riddens.

3rd street promenade has reinvented itself into almost all chain stores now since rents are sky high .

Seems like it used to appeal to a mix of tourists and locals but now it seems almost all tourists .

I like enclosed malls. Not everyone agrees that L.A. has "some of the best weather anywhere." I hate heat and sunshine.

I stopped going to Santa Monica's mall when they tore down the enclosed version (aka Santa Monica Place) and replaced it with an open air version. (I forget what it's now called).

I loved that place. It was new when I was a kid. They had Hotdog on a Stick, which was rockin' in the 80's. And there was the toy store and pet store right next to each other, so my gram could sit down outside while I visited both. There's all the history to it as well, such as exterior shots for Fast Times at Ridgemount High, Pretty in Pink, et al. I hate the new place -- never been and I don't intend to give them my business.

Yeah the new mall seems to cater pretty much only to tourists. All high end stuff but not surprising I guess since there are a ton of tourists in the area and many like to shop .

Nothing really too interesting there that I can think of .

Speaking of Fast Times , did you know the actor that played Mike Damone had opened a coffee shop
In NoHo arts district? I went there once or twice and he was actually working there

But looks like he sold it or someone else running it now .

<i>Fast Times'</i> Mike Damone Opens Bob's Coffee Shop in North Hollywood

I'm glad he found something to do, since I don't think he did too much after Fast Times.
