For as long as you've been posting!

You posted an article from the Sacramento Bee, with a paywall. Can’t read any census info on it.

You appear to delight in posting and starting threads on this forum about how horrible everything is in this state. And then you bid us farewell, telling us that you no longer have any interest in California.....but you're back again, telling us that we're beset by poverty, Prop 13 should be overturned for "free health care for all," San Francisco is a city of squalor, etc, etc.

I never said "Prop 13 should be over turned", I'm predicting that it will be banished to fund long term liabilities, something Gavin Newsom (the governor you admitted to voting for) said "is on the table".

But overall I'm just participating in this fine forum, taking a small break from funemployment.

Maybe your problem is not with me but with the uncomfortable truths about the state?

Have a nice day! I hope things get better for you (I really do).

p.s - Here's a non-paywall article showing California being #1 in poverty using the CENSUS supplemental measure.

Yes, that must be it. I can assure you that I don't share your belief in the "uncomfortable truths" about California.

I doubt it will be banished outright. But it might die of a thousand cuts, over a period of decades.

First they'll eliminate Prop 13 protections on commercial property.

Then they'll limit Prop 13 protections to solely your primary residence.

Then they'll eliminate your right to leave your Prop 13 assessment to your heirs.

And so on, and so forth.

Yup once they get a taste of that tax money from commercial they’ll push for changes to residential .

Article from today ..

“But likely voters are lukewarm about a possible 2020 ballot measure that would tax large commercial properties according to their current market value. The poll found that 49 percent of likely voters back this change and 43 percent oppose it.

Supporters say it would fix a growing imbalance between residential and commercial tax burdens. Under Prop. 13, properties are reassessed only when they’re sold. That happens a lot with houses, but not so much with commercial properties such as oil refineries and downtown high-rises.

Head of the teacher’s union in L.A pushing for a rollback or prop 13.

What this will due is accelerate gentrification for sure.

——
“The head of the United Teachers Los Angeles (UTLA) union, Alex Caputo-Pearl, says teachers will campaign for a 2020 California ballot initiative to roll back Proposition 13. The landmark 1978 ballot initiative, capping real estate levies, is widely credited with igniting a nationwide taxpayers revolt.

"We've all got a lot of work to do to make sure that that ballot initiative passes," he said in public remarks this week, stressing the union's determination to restore for public schools a vital revenue source that was stunted 40 years ago.

“Under the 2020 ballot initiative dubbed "Schools and Communities First," commercial and industrial property would once again be taxed by local governments according to market value. The limits on residential taxes under Prop 13 would be left intact, a system called "split roll."”

That is not true. Many of the newcomers are from Asia who make major investments in businesses etc. it seems from my perspective that more of the poorer newcomers would move to the more economical states like AZ and NV.

That's probably the most likely scenario.

Hmm. Wonder what long term liabilities could have a huge effect on the teacher's union.

Prop 13's days are limited for sure.

The voters enacted Prop 13 before and the Initiative Process is very much alive and well today...

By happenstance... 3 of the last 5 coworkers relocated to AZ... some spent a lot of time searching...

The other one to Nevada and the other to Washington... no State Income Tax.

The more this gets pushed the more people with options will exercise their options...

It use to be folks in the Bay Area would cash out and move to the Sierra... then Nevada and Oregon... now many I know have moved to AZ and TX...

These are mostly retired Law Enforcement, Fire and Medical Professionals...
