Another victim of the pandemic -- Arclight Cinemas / Pacific Theatres won't reopen. I was so looking forward to going back. Horrible.

I had heard they were in trouble. Sad to see this and wonder about the future of the Cinerama Dome.

Damn these were some of my favorite theaters even though they lacked the recliners. I wonder what's next to close just as things "reopen".

I spent two days in LA in September 2019. It was my first and only time in California and the first thing I did after I got situated at the hotel was Uber down to the Dome and Amoeba records. Saw It 2 in the Dome that day, and in fact would have watched anything as long as it was in the Dome. Fantastic experience.

I don't necessarily blame Covid for this. Politicians and the Hollywood studios withholding product are largely to blame. Hopefully they won't raze the Dome or turn it into some lame "event space."

The Seattle Cinerama had also closed for renovations right before Covid, and with the political situation in Seattle I fear it will never reopen either. Damn shame on both counts.

Same here in Boston. Today's Boston Globe has a story about Arclight. It had just opened two months before the pandemic.

Movies theaters are a relic of the past. There is no need to ever sit in a crowded theater again when one can watch big screen high def in the comfort of one's home. The last time I went to a theater was around 2003.

Cinema is meant to be seen in a cinema. If you enjoy watching movies on tv at home, great, but that's all it is, tv.

Going to the Arclight to see a movie was one of my favorite things to do in Southern California, despite the fact that I have the technology to watch movies at home.

I disagree. I'm not a big movie watcher, but when I do it has to be in a cinema with popcorn and coke.
