I've recently been given job offers from two locations. One is in Culver City (Venice and Culver) and the other around Pico and Fairfax. Each of these offers would require me to take the La Cienega bus line. The difference between the two - the Culver City position would require me to have to walk a decent distance down Venice Blvd late at night.

Can someone tell me a bit about these areas? I always thought Culver City was really nice, though I am reading a lot about heavy uptick in crime.

The Culver City job is paying me a dollar more.

Culver city is pretty nice. I'm not sure there are many areas to walk around at night safely these days

Culver City is generally pretty good, but that area around Venice and Culver through to National might feel a little uncomfortable at night for walking to bus stop. It has lots of vehicle traffic and businesses (mostly closed late at night), but not many people on foot. Once you get to Helms, things get a little more lively again.

Why would you walk?

Buy a Tap card. It allows you to transfer from one bus to another for free.

For example, you can take a bus #33 on Venice Blvd, then transfer to a bus #105 on La Cienega.

Those buses don't run well at night, though.
You can consider a cheap bicycle.

Also, there are discounted Tap cards for low-income passengers.

The Culver subway station feels a little bit scary at night time.
It's elevated, and it feels like there is no way for an escape if a criminal appears.

But the subway follows the schedule and runs every 15-20 minutes even at night.

Fairfax area is not safer because it has a denser population.
