I might considering to move to calabasas in the future. While I'm definitely attracted by the city's laid back and family-oriented lifestyle, I'm still concerned by its reputation to be full of dangerous wild animals like moutain lions and coyotes and being the rattlesnakes mecca. Tons of videos on the internet tends to confirm this.

For those who do lives in calabasas/Hidden hills, how often do you see snakes in your property ? Is that common to have coyotes/mountain lions in your backyard ? How long did you live there ?

Is it a safe place for families with kids ? Which area should be avoided ?

it depends where you live in Calabasas . if your in the outskirts of Calabasas near the mountains by Stunt road or Malibu Creek State Park (Monte Nido) for example you might on a really rare occasion encounter a mountain lion or rattle snake (snakes hibernate in the winter ). You'll see the usual suspects deer, quail and coyotes and the occasional skunk . Calabasas is pretty safe for children I wouldn't worry about it. I grew up in the Santa Monica Mountains near Calabasas it wasn't a big problem. My friend lives in Calabasas near the high school his home is bordered by other homes so its not bordering the mountains so the only wildlife that comes in is coyotes. I asked my friend once if he had seen any rattlesnakes. He told me he had not seen one in his yard.

Coyotes aren't dangerous. Don't run or be scared. Just stop and look at them, and they'll back off.

And they're everywhere. I saw two coyotes wandering around Santa Monica, North of Montana, around 6 a.m. on a Sunday this past April.

I see coyotes in Santa Monica maybe every other year. One morning, around 3 a.m., I saw four of them crossing Georgiana Avenue. That was several years ago.

Im pretty sure Calabasas doesnt have a reputation to be full of dangerous wild animals. It definitely isnt a "mecca" of rattlesnakes.

I consider myself to be a avid hiker and am familiar with many of the trails in the area. I have never seen a rattlesnake or a mountain lion. Coyotes though are all over, but only really come out at night. Saw a couple of coyotes just a few days ago in Encino south of Ventura blvd. They arent a problem though.

A "wildlife" problem?

Hardly.

A rich, entitled, suburban sprawl problem?

Absolutely.
