Well, glad you were able to get out, but I certainly see it as a hazard in case you need to leave immediately from danger, or tend to sick relative right away, etc. etc.

Gads I hate these types of situations, but you need to hold your ground and demand your tenant rights. I'd go with the suggestion of getting in contact with whatever agency oversees tenant/landlord relations and take care of this. You can be civil, yet firm. Good luck!!!
