thanks for the great advice...it certainly is helpful, considering a lease for something will probably be signed within two weeks!

Default Silverlake

I think you will enjoy living in Silverlake. I did. I owned a townhouse there for the last 10 years which I was renting out for the last 5 years ($2100/mo. for a 3bdrm/3bath w/2car garage). The whole area around the reservoir is really nice and you might want to try to stay north of Sunset Blvd. On Silverlake Blvd, I used to go to Spaceland to hear indie bands. A good hangout is the Red Lion on Glendale Blvd. It is a German Beer Garden Restaurant that people come to from all over - good draft beers and great people watching on the rooftop patio! All of Glendale Blvd from Hyperion to the 2 freeway is very fun and interesting. Silverlake Blvd near the reservoir and the dog park has a lot going on. Sunset Blvd has lots of "alternative" kinds of cool shops with different take on cool.
Have fun and enjoy the adventure - explore neighboring Echo Park too!
