I just moved to the SF bay area 1 month ago from Louisville. You're right it is beautiful and has a lot to offer but it is also incredibly crowded and everything is shoved in between the 101 and the mountains. Though people have been relatively friendly we have also encountered some of the most entitled people we have ever met. In the same way Louisville has it's issues but it is a kind city. The people are not miserable and I take offense to you saying that. Louisville has a wonderful food scene, beautiful parks, and a unique culture. Kentucky itself is rich in history and beautiful in scenery. It also has a wonderful arts culture. I'm sad that you have such a skewed and negative opinion of Louisville.
EE doesn't "hate" KY.........it's his home. He's just not big on LouKy. Neither am I............although I'm not from there and had the misfortune of living there for over 20 years. Yeah.........it's "comin' around" as has every place else for years. LouKy is what it is.................

There is a difference between not liking a place, and living outside it and trolling against it. There are several people here guilty of it. Give the pluses and minuses of the place, but when you start to troll, it is just downright annoying.

Also, you had no misfortune. If it was so bad, you would have left in 2 years. Louisville is a highly cultured area for its region especially, and has seen such a dynamic renaissance in the last 5 years that it is nearly unrecognizable to anyone who lived there before except for the barebone infrastructure...it truly is one of the best kept secrets in middle America.

It's great to hear all this feedback. I'm still not sure if were moving or not. It is nice to know that Kentucky has a lot to offer.

I don't think EE hates Kentucky or is a troll. Not at all.
He is just not a fan, and I know sometimes he upsets people a bit, who love it here,
but he is entitled to his opinion, just like anyone else.
Some people think NYC is the greatest place on earth, some others go there and think it is a cesspool or hate it.
Is either right or wrong really? I mean it is a matter of perspective and personal opinion, etc.
I guess he gives depth and dimension to the topic...Because a lot of people just love Kentucky, there will always be a few
who find flaws (and as great as everything here is, everything really does have some bad as well as good. Everything.)
Growing up, we moved around the country a lot, and I saw first hand, how one person could love a place
and think it is the greatest, while another person just hates it. Sometimes the very things that one person loves, are even what the other hates, lol.

Yeah I agree with that. Everyone who is around and posts on the KY forums has something valuable to add, which is why we have this forum.

Thank you for your Common Sense response. Just because someone does not agree with a place / attitude / etc...........does not make them a Troller. We are entitled to our own opinions, I do believe.

I lived in LouKy for many years.......decades.......it wasn't my "thing" at all. Yeah, I did leave after couple of years, but came back because my significant other was still living there and couldn't leave.

Of course, things have changed...........everywhere............in BIG ways. For every city.......so LouKy is not unusual in that.

And just because you have a differing opinion does not make you a Troller.

I admit, I haven't been there in about 9 months, but can't imagine things are just Vastly Different.

I'm sorry it took so long to respond, as I honestly did not see this until just now.

I actually like the Modesto area all in all. Modesto does have some crime and ghettoization problems, to be sure, though not on the level of Stockton or Fresno. There are some surprisingly good restaurants in the area, the local vibe is fairly laid back (at least in comparison with the Bay Area and L.A.), and some of the surrounding towns like Sonora, Jamestown, Oakdale, Turlock, Ripon, and Lodi are cute and charming. Plus, the proximity to the Bay Area, Sacramento, Yosemite, Tahoe, and even L.A. (five hours) is pretty nice.

That being said, I've lived in the Bay Area before, and yet find myself increasingly visiting and changing my mind from bad to good about Sacramento. If I stay in NorCal longer term, I'd be willing to give Sacramento a chance. But, my favorite place I've lived in California is the L.A. area, and I can see myself choosing L.A. long term (or in its sphere of influence, e.g. Ventura County, OC, Riverside, Redlands), with the issue of affordability being the primary, potential obstacle.

Yosemite area (Calaveras, Tuolumne, Inyo Counties, etc.) to Kentucky won't be the extreme level of culture shock that moving from SF or LA to Kentucky would be, but I'm sure, if you move, that you'll still notice quite a few differences, both great and annoying.

echo this.....

"Eastern Kentucky" is a different world from Louisville and surround area so I almost told you no, but that also depends on the area of Northern California you're from. Eastern KY is VERY rural (but then again so are some parts of California). Even Oldham Co can be considered "country" but no so much rural, but it's close enough to Louisville that you have "city people" that live out there for bigger homes and better schools.

If you can live in the East end of Louisville that's what I'd do.....any thing East of Bardstown Rd and north of I-264 basically....
