Hi all,
My husband and I and our two fur children (we do not have human children) would like to move further north. We currently live in Central FLA. My husband is from Tennessee, I'm from Canada. I need my seasons back and we would like to live a reasonable distance from family/friends in Canada (Ontario). Can anyone suggest some places in the Louisville and surrounding area where it is dog friendly (i.e. walking parks, walking communities) where we could potentially find a home that runs from $250,000 to $325,000, on .40 acre or more. We would love a community where it is mixed ages, where it's not just young families, but a little of everything. Also, low crime of course is very important. I have subscribed to the Neighborhood Scout software which can tell you tracts within Zipcodes that have some of the above qualities, but I need to have a starting point first. So some zips or areas in general would be appreciated. We both work from home so jobs are not an issue.

Thanks so much! Looking forward to some responses.

Well, are you looking for more of an urban or suburban area? In Louisville, you can actually find a few houses on lots up to .5 acre in the city, although the closer to downtown you get, the denser the housing (where many houses literally sit "window to window").

I think the your number one zip to look at would be 40205. This area is very dog friendly and has a few wonderful parks within walking distance, with Cherokee Park being the main one. Cherokee Park was designed by the famous Frederick Law Olmstead who also designed Central Park in NYC among others!

I also think you will like 40204, which is in the same vicinity but a bit more diverse. The housing stock is older but there are many magnificent rehabs as well as condo conversions. 40204 and 40205 are very safe for urban areas.

You may also want to look at 40206 and 40207 which have a bit of an "older suburban" feel with all the amenities of strip malls and malls while still being close into the city.

For newer suburbs that fit your criteria, I would look at 40220, 40222, 40241, and 40243. These areas have more newish subdivisions, low crime, good schools, and all the typical suburban amenities you can find in "anysuburb USA"
