Hello all,

My significant other's birthday is in a few days and I'm in a bit of a bind with restaurants.

Last week he didn't want anything nice, but has changed his mind so I need to set up a reservation. We like to try new places each year so I'll list some places below we've already been to. Ideally not much more than $30-$50 a plate please, and must be in Louisville. He says he's in the mood for chicken or steak, not seafood this year. It would be good if their dessert menu includes cheesecake, but I can arrange for that separately if needed.

Some places we've been to already:
  • Decca (one of our favorites)
  • Rivue (my favorite)
  • Ruth's Chris
  • Le Moo (did not enjoy)
  • Mussel & Burger Bar (did not enjoy)
  • Harvest (went for a second time recently, did not have a pleasant experience)
  • Mayan Cafe
  • Butchertown Grocery
  • Vincenzo's
  • Buck's
  • Dish
  • Cheesecake Factory
  • Seviche
  • 8UP (one of our favorites)

What about the Brazilian Steakhouse on 4th St called Brazieros? Wife and I ate there 2-3 times and had a great meal every time - all the meats you want and I think they have cheesecake for dessert too bc we always got one for free since we were celebrating something each time.

Lots of good places you have missed.

try Jeff Ruby's, Jack Fry's, or La Chasse. All are of the caliber of restaurants you liked above. I'd recommend Jack Fry's...if you have never been you are missing out!!! Jack Fry's or Jeff Rub's ideal for steak, but also great American menu!

There's 100 more places as good or better than these, but this is a start. If you want to go "all out" ante up for English Grill or 610 Magnolia. I think Jack Fry's fits your needs best though and is quintessential Louisville.

Also, Yelp and the foodie forum at www.louisvillehotbytes.com is where all the local foodies hang!

Jack Fry's - American menu with great food

Milkwood - Southern/Asian fusion. A little eclectic but great.

Proof on Main - Beautiful with great ambiance. Food is great, too.

Bourbon Bistro - A little more laid back but still nice. Variety of bourbon. Great food - the steak and pork chop are both awesome.

The Fat Lamb - Very clean and modern feeling. The food is awesome and locally sourced

English Grill - In the Brown hotel. Classic ambiance, good wine list, and the food is awesome.
