Bbq (Lubbock, Wolfforth: university, restaurant, food)

Hi everybody. On my next trip to Lubbock, I want to try some of the best BBQ joints in town. What do y'all recommend?

Haven't been to either, but Evie Mae's in Wolfforth and The Shack on N Frankford get the highest ratings on Yelp. Have read rave reviews of Evie Mae's on other sites (including Texas Monthly), but it looks like it can be an adventure to get food there, at least until their permanent indoor restaurant opens. It's only open Thu, Fri, and Sat from 11 until they sell out. Might want to get in line early.

Eddies BBQ on East 50th Street is my personal favorite. Tom and Bingo's on 34th is consistently recognized by Texas Monthly.

Here are a few you may want to look at:

J&M's BBQ (2 locations - 34th St and also Slide Rd near 82nd) - Good brisket and sausage, decent sides.

Bighams BBQ (2 locations) - You might like this, but I thought the meat and sauce were both bland.

The Arrogant Texan - Across from Texas Tech on University. Not your run-of-the-mill 'cue stop, as you see college kids trying to run things. Meats are okay, and they do have an array of various sauces to try.

Cagle's - Yes, it's a steakhouse, but they also smoke brisket, ribs, and chicken there. Their sandwich plates are definitely worth a taste. Get the fries with this. Dinner hours only.

Aside from the aforementioned elsewhere and here, the rest of the places are chains serving the area, with Rudy's, Dickey's, and Rib Crib in case the locals don't tickle your fancy.

I have eaten at The Arrogant Texan before and wasn't crazy about it. I will definitely try all of the other places.
