Native Texas looking to return to the homeland and considering applying for a job in Lubbock. I saw some rather scary stats online concerning Lubbock's crime rate. For those of you who live there....I'd love to hear your opinions on crime around the city and the safer parts of town to settle in. I've heard that Lubbock is a fairly religious town - so was surprised to hear that the crime was out of control. Anything you can tell me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

As Lubbock grows, police are watching crime rates

Quote:
(Lt. Mendoza) said unless you are involved in things like drugs or burglary, you really do not have to worry.
"Nothing good happens after midnight" might also be a good rule to follow. The crime rate could be lowered, but I've never noticed anything in my frequent visits other than PI (big surprise) and the accompanying activity.

The SW and far west sides might be the safest parts of town. Stay away from I-27.

The high crime areas are pretty much in localized "pockets." Stay west of Avenue Q and you'll be fine. The further south and west you go, the nicer the city is. Random crimes are not really a concern. As stated above, it's usually committed by someone the victim is involved with in some capacity.
