Numerous sources say it will be colder than normal. Some government employee was told to support the global warming mantra and did so. I see a bonus in their future.

Default First big nor'easter for next week.

Heads up especially for you folks along the coastal sections.. both the American and European computer models are coming into agreement with what may be a fairly decent rain and wind event starting around Tuesday night and lasting into Thursday of next week (Oct 21-23). As far as strength of system, it will not be extraordinary, the winds may peak around 35-50mph at most. What I am concerned about are the rainfall amounts projected; easily in the 3-5 inch range centered from Augusta to Portland area on up to Rockland. I'm still a bit guarded on the forecasted rainfall amounts, but I can see at least an inch or two for sure. Overall, you've had a dry fall so far, so this system may make up for it. I'll do my best to monitor and keep you abreast of developments.

You guys ready for rains, wind, flooding? Not a historic storm by any means but an annoying one to linger around a couple days.

Look at the 5 day total rain forecast from WPC. 5 inches + for Maine! WPC 5- and 7-Day Total Quantitative Precipitation Forecasts

Part of Discussion From NWS Maine

Quote:
COASTAL FLOODING IS A POSSIBILITY AS THE SYSTEM MAKES A LOOP OVER
LONG ISLAND NEW YORK ON THURSDAY. WAVE RUNUP TOOLS INDICATING
SOME BEACH EROSION ACROSS MUCH OF OUR COASTLINE...ALONG WITH
SPLASH-OVER AND OVERWASH. NEARSHORE WAVES SHOULD TOP OUT IN THE 10
TO 15 FOOT RANGE.

STEADY PRECIP ENDS ON FRIDAY AS THE SYSTEM LIFTS NORTHEASTWARD.

HYDRO...MAINSTEM RIVERS WILL NEED TO BE MONITORED CLOSELY MIDWEEK.
MOST SMALL RIVERS AND STREAMS WILL LIKELY HAVE SHARP RISES AS
WELL. HEAVIEST RAINFALL IS EXPECTED TO BE OVER SOUTH-CENTRAL MAINE
AND THE NORTHEAST FACING HIGHER TERRAIN. AGAIN...MOSTLY 2-3 INCHES
QPF WITH LOCALIZED AMOUNTS NEAR OR OVER 4 INCHES.
And for those wondering, no cold air around so no snow to fall except above 8000 feet. (maybe above 6000', have to see)

Well, the highest point in Maine is at 5,267 feet at Katahdin's peak. When it clears we'll see if it got a dusting.

Should be neat! It'll be rough walking the dogs though.

You guys ready for snow? Latest Euro model goes bonkers. Not to be believed yet but NWS Gray Maine discussion mentions it. If it's right accumulating snows to the coast and tons of it for interior.

Saturday-Sunday

Quote:
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE GRAY ME
628 AM EDT TUE OCT 28 2014

THE LATEST EURO CLOSES OFF THE LOW EVEN FURTHER SOUTH OVER THE
CAROLINAS ON SATURDAY DUE TO THE VIGOROUS STRONG JET DIGGING SEWD
FROM THE GREAT LAKES BEFORE LIFTING IT NEWD TOWARD THE GULF OF
MAINE FOR SUNDAY.

MEANWHILE, OTHER MODELS KEEP TROUGH MORE OPEN,
PROGRESSIVE AND FURTHER N. THE PROBLEM MODELS ARE HAVING IS TRYING
TO PHASE TWO SEPARATE STRONG S/WAVES THAT BOTH PACK A LOT OF
ENERGY.

PRECIPITATION TYPE WILL START OUT AS RAIN BUT CHANGE
TO SNOW LATER FRIDAY NIGHT AND EARLY SATURDAY IN THE MOUNTAINS.
THEN EXPECT THE SNOW LEVELS TO LOWER AND EVENTUALLY REACH THE
COAST BY LATE SATURDAY. SATURDAY NIGHT ALL PRECIPITATION TYPE
SHOULD BE IN THE FORM OF SNOW. QPF AMOUNTS AT THIS POINT ARE UP IN
THE AIR SINCE TRACK AND EVOLUTION OF SYSTEM STILL UNCERTAIN.

FOR GUIDANCE, STARTED WITH THE SUPERBLEND BUT HAD TO MAKE
SIGNIFICANT CHANGES FOR THE WEEKEND PERIOD TO REFLECT THE
POTENTIAL FOR FIRST WIDESPREAD SNOW EVENT OF THE SEASON .
