This is my first post. As you can tell by my user name I am identifying myself as an alumni of Hurricane Island Outward Bound. That was a "long" time ago, at least by my reckoning. I joined because I am interested in making contact with people who have some stories to share about that part of the state.

My hobby is writing. I have written alot of non-fiction (probably nothing that would be worth mentioning outside of Japan). So now I am learning to write fiction. An experience I had as a "young lad" at Hurricane Island is the topic of my first complete story.
The problem is that it was so long ago, all I can remember are a few emotions, and one particular scene of "the main event" of my story. I am hoping that by exchanging posts on this message board, I can remember or get more of the visual details. Yes, I have done my homework, I have Googled various combinations to try to get this. But it is the daily acts, the things people see, and do, that I need to remember/hear about. I have the basic plot and conflict set up. I am struggling with creating the scene, the stuff that makes the reader believe they are really there...the smell of the spruce and the fir, the feel of granite, look of the lobsterfisherman lilly white skin under his colar, the sound of the water lapping against the pulling boat at dawn, the sight of goats eating the grass on the side of those steep hills, the... you got the idea? This is what I am interested in.
AND in exchange, what have I got that you would be interested in? I reach down into my overalls and pull out......a 5 yen coin?
