schools are local, depends on where you live in each county. Both counties have good schools and bad schools.

Sure there are some other schools that have problems, but not a single one has anywhere near the problems that Balt. City, Prince Georges, or Baltimore County (excepting Towson or Dulaney Valley) have.
And my understanding of Howard County schools is that a lot of them are losing their prestige. Howard is no longer semi-rural the way it was 30 years ago.
Howard is also doing a lot of busing, which means that paying a little extra for a nice neighborhood no longer guarantees that your children will be with like-minded families that prep their children to do well in school, which, of course, is what makes the schools "good" or "not good" in the first place.....it has nothing to do with the building itself!
