96K for a condo? Be prepared for some sticker shock. I haven't checked prices in Hagerstown for a while, but I doubt you would find anything decent for under 140K or 150K and that is the low end. Hagerstown isn't a high crime city, but there are some rough spots, so you will want to check the cheapest properties pretty carefully.

Iowa - My gay friends range from 30's up to 50's. They're not much into the club scene, but like I said, they do go down to DC quite a bit for different reasons. With no traffic, I can drive to DC in an hour and 15/20 min from my house. Rush hour......forget about it, 2 hours or more on a good day! Personally, I love it here. I've lived in both Frederick, DC area, and now Hagerstown, and by far I like the slower pace, friendly people, smaller crowds out here. But that's me.

Sheperdstown WV is a very liberal cool little town, I'd check it out too.

westsideboy....I understand what you meant. Like I said, really enjoy your posts, they are very accurate and insightful. I-81 corridor has really blown up over the past few years with residential and commercial, but has since slowed due to the economy.

Best of luck Iowa!

I used to live in Frederick,Md and thought it was a nice place to live. That was about 8 years ago and it has grown TREMENDOUSLY. I still think it would be a nice place to live---educated population, nice downtown. Hagerstown isn't bad,but it is more rural--they do have a nice outlet mall there though. Socially,I'd say Frederick is a bit better,JMO

I don't see Hagerstown as a good place to live for a single person. There is not a lot of night life here. I think moving to Frederick or closer to DC would be better even though it is more expensive.
