I believe one of the differences between the business now and the older smaller local business of the past was generally the older local business had a general attitude that they had a duty to there employees and the communities they served.

Now it appears with some big corporations that the bottom line is profit and there shareholders. That we the customer are here to be of service to them. Further its monkey see and monkey do, one company overprices there product and gets away with it, then others raise prices, and all down the line.

Its not just corporations either, greed goes down the line. Some unions and C.E.Os are to blame too, how much salary do you need to feel whole and content.

Please understand im not anti business or profit, but much like the alcoholic, how much is enough? When the damage is to others and way of life.

What data do u want? the differences between profit margins for big business between the 70s - now? Or that there is a difference in attitude between the smaller local business vs corporations? Or salary differences between C.E.Os vs common worker compared to overall profit by a corporation? Or cost of living differences between the 70s - now?

Personally i don't think there is data on alot of this stuff.

Further even if we found data to support my arguments? Would it be enough to change? Or change how we think? Im always hopeful, but experience tells me that any illness or injustice in society the only reason its there is because someone is profiting from it. And as long as some people our benefiting then why change for the whole.

But im willing to find data, tell me what u need to be convinced that changes need to be made and the current way of thinking regarding business etc isn't working for the betterment of all.

What a load of garbage.

Plenty of locals had opportunities to succeed in life. Most throw it away or didn't want to put in the work. I've watched too many of my friends throw away success to surf and drink their lives away.

I'm fairly sure the USA will not be turning into a socialist state anytime soon.

I do believe that some versions of Communism have been tried, very unsuccessfully, I might add, and that Socialism doesn't work too well either. Greece, Spain and a few other European countries could explain that to you.

Without profit, a person's desire to work harder than the person next to him goes away. Why should any one person work harder if they don't get to realize any benefits from that hard work?

You should stop complaining about people that have become rich from hard work and figure out what you need to do in order to accomplish wealth and success for yourself.

Love this thread so far. Lots of interesting info and funny comments! But geez. Get off socialism especially quoting Europe! Greece is not a socialistic state (yes, there are some socialist in the governement, but that has very little to do with why it failed) but a CORRUPT state. And Spain is in trouble not because of Socialism but because of it's bizzarre labour lawas which stem from the times from a FASHIST regime. So neither one of them has anything to do with socialism. Socialism DOES work. See Sweden, Denmark, Norway (heck even see Germany and some other countries which are still in pretty good shape). But really define socialism please. The US military is socialistic from how I see it from over here...
