I've done a couple of moves to and from Hawaii but never used Matson. Moving back to Maui this summer from Indiana and to save money, going to UHaul it from Indiana to Long Beach, then put our stuff on a Matson container.

From researching, it seems you cannot just pull into a yard and unload/load to a container. The container has to be delivered outside the yard by an outside company. Is this true and if so, where does someone have it delivered?

I am going to have some heavy items that will be palletized and will need a forklift. Is that possible?

Would love input from someone who has gone through this.

Thanks

You could call a consolidator and see if they'd have a container to load into. Young Brothers will let you load into a mixed freight container in their yard, but that's only inter-island stuff.

You might call DHX - Dependable Hawaiian Express. Office/yard is in Cerritos, I think. No idea if that will work for you but I used them this January to ship 2 large Knaack Boxes full of tools from Ventura to Kahului and was very pleased with the price and experience.

Just want to update my thread. Ended up going with UPack relocube. Cheaper and easier for my needs. Goes straight to Maui.

Couple cases of SPAM, few cases of beer, futon, a small porta potty, and you're all set

I'm here.

Used one Relocube from Upack. Fit a lot of stuff in it including an entire Barbershop (four vintage barber chairs, cabinets, decor) PLUS personal goods (no furniture).

Can't believe how hot it is. I don't EVER remember it being this hot growing up.

Feels good to be back.

Glad to hear it And thanks for the tip. I'm going to look into that Relocube. Hope to be retiring to Mau in 18 months or so.
What was the size/cost of the cube?

edit: I just saw your other post with the details. Thanks
