My first trip to Hawaii was when I was 16. The first island was Kauai. Driving along that lonesome road at night, my dad said “what have I gotten us into ?” We were staying at Princeville. The next morning, my dad and I, both the early risers, woke up to the most beautiful place we had ever seen. We fell in love and have been in love ever since. My parents were able to make the move there right after I graduated from high school. My father never gave it up and died there in 2013. My life took a different turn and I stayed up in Houston, Texas (married, etc). But I go back whenever I can and as the first sight of O’ahu is spotted through that plane window, a feeling of home, peace, and longing overwhelm me. When I depart on that night flight, I stare out the window until the last light on Oahu fades, crying the entire time. I still feel my dad there, as well as our mutual love of Hawaii. There is something that calls to certain people that can never let go of your heartstrings. It is my Heaven on earth despite all of its flaws. I love the weather, the ocean, the sense of inner contentment I feel no where else. Wish I lived there, but for several reasons I don’t at this time. However I will never give up on that dream.

LOL no actually I always pre pay for my Hawaii trips just so that doesn’t happen. I’m not much of a spender, more of a beach goer and stay home cooking dinner at night.

My sister still has an old shack of a house on the North Shore and my late mom's estate a condo in downtown Hon , but I always loved Maui best even though I rarely get to go there .

(Hi everyone, this is my first post in almost 2 years. Have I missed anything?)

My wife and I call it “our happy place”.

Peaceful. In Hawaii, mostly in Maui, my depression and anxiety disappear. So lucky to have been able to visit there several times.
