It's so hard to find rental cars on Lanai and they are also very expensive. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do without a car?

We will be flying in from Oahu and take the ferry to Maui after staying the day.

First, you'd likely find more helpful info on a website like trip advisor.

But if you're only there a day anyways, and without a car, I'd suggest making a beach/snorkel day at Hulopo'e bay/beach. Are you staying at the 4 seasons? It's right on that bay. When I went a bit over a year ago there was still a dollar rental there, but it's since shut down unfortunately. I checked out some awesome stuff in the 3 days we were there. Garden of the Gods and Shipwreck beach were pretty amazing.

What are you going to do with your luggage on your day trip?

Without a car - your options become limited. Rabaca's will take you anywhere on the island for $10/person. If you like cat's - the Lanai Cat Sanctuary is unlike anything else I've ever seen. You could always walk around Lanai City and grab lunch - but it is a very sleepy town - you could go horseback riding - or hang out at the Four Seasons in Lanai City or the Bay.

If this is a trip you'll likely never make again - pay the $100 for a Jeep, if I recall correctly that is what they go for.

Thanks for your suggestions. We'd definitely like to visit the Garden of the Gods and the Shipwreck beach if we could make our way there.

We are not staying in any hotel on Lanai as we will be leaving for Maui after dinner.

We have called several places and couldn't get a car - maybe we will try again. Very likely this is going to be our only trip there so hopefully we can get one or use Rabaca's. Thanks for the great suggestion!

Because we assume there is no car, we are planning to pack light and bring only the essentials.

BTW, we love cats (have one at home) and would love to visit the Sanctuary.

I remember months ago reading the place that rented jeeps went out of business. If I were you I would call a local business over there and try to get the scoop.

I think it was the Dollar rental agency which went out of business. They were like $125 per day a year or so ago. $185 is pretty steep!

Thanks everyone. We ended up using Rabaca's. It is a good option if you're not going to too many places and also note they don't take you to places where the roads aren't paved.

With just a day, we visited the cat sanctuary, Lanai City, and Hulopo'e Beach. It was fun!
