I have:
Generalized Anxiety Disorder
Panic Disorder
Major clinical depression
ADD
I am on:
Wellbutrin 300 mg a day
Xanax XR 4 mg a day
I have been on pretty much every medication for anxiety and depression. This combination works the best for me. But...I think my Xanax tolerance is building up so I will probably need to go up in dosage. My doctor said for panic disorder the consensus is starting at 4mg of Xanax per day in treatment resistant panic.
You did not say you had panic disorder. So for anxiety, they will probably throw every drug at you until one sticks. If nothing sticks you may end up with some Klonopin or Valium.
Wellbutrin is amazing for those of us who don't have serotonin issues and need other chemicals, but it also can cause anxiety and so, it could be making yours worse. My doctor never gives Wellbutrin without a benzodiazepine to compliment it. Especially in a person with anxiety.
As for hormones and what not, a blood test can quickly rule out any hormone issues. So, you can always ask for a blood test. My thyroid is fine....usually a psychiatrist can tell after they get to know you.
Self, in its various manifestations, is at the root of your troubles.
Porn addiction is a stimulus interrupter, its something to keep you from feeling fear.
If you rid yourself from bondage to self you will be free and no longer be in a state of fear.
Not true! Cognitive-behavioral therapy is more helpful than all the meds in the world. If the depression and anxiety are so crippling you can't function, you start on meds and wean off them as you build better affect-management skills with CBT.
I have had CBT and it kind of helped. Not really, though.
I don't have any trauma or reasons for my anxiety or panic. I'm not afraid of heights or people or...anything. I just feel on edge all the time.
When I have a panic attack I detatch from reality, vomit, shake, can't walk, can't talk, and I feel not in my body. My hands don't look or feel like my hands. Sometimes I can't tell you where I am. CBT never stopped that. They come on with no warning and can last a long time. Usually I require at least 1 mg of Xanax and if it does not work the ER gives me Ativan to stop it. Once, my blood pressure was 180/90 and pulse was 120 and I am young and healthy. Usually it is 120/70. CBT can't really help whatever is wrong with my GABA.
Someone repped me and said I take high Xanex. It is Xanax. I see it spelled with an "E" a lot and that is incorrect.
First, there is no reason what so ever to demonize Xanax, Valium, Klonopin, Ativan, and other benzo's. They do not "mess" with your brain. They simply stop you from poducing anti anxiety chemicals as you are feeding yourself the chemicals. That is how anti depressants work, pain pills work and birth control pills work, for example.
They are very safe and hard to even OD on IF you do not mix them worth alcohol or opiates. You could take a whole bottle at once and still not die. But...that would be stupid.
IF other medications could help a person they would know, as doctors prescribe benzo's as a last resort.
Most people do not have anxiety disorder. Of those with anxiety disorder most people don't have panic disorder. Xanax (Alprazolam) is for panic disorder. Period. There are two types, the Alprazolam most know that come on fast and leave fast. Those stop panic attacks. Then there's the XR. Which is a time release pill. The time release pill was designed to discourage abuse as it's hard to get "high" off of them. But they are incredibly good at stopping panic attacks and treating medication resistant GAD.
With that said, 4mg of Xanax XR is the recommended starting dosage for PANIC disorder. Since it is XR it is time release. 4 mg of the other type of Xanax would make most people fall asleep. For those with no anxiery a .5 mg can make them sleep.
I have been on and off Alprazolam since 2011. Xanax XR saved my life. Most people with panic disorder need much more than 4 mg a day.
When I started on 4 mg a day, I had self tapered and had been off Xanax for a year. I could not get out of bed. I was stiff, frozen, and having waves of attacks. I took 4 mg of Xanax XR and by the next day I was running on my treadmill. I was lifting weights. I was skating again.
If you have panic disorder Xanax does NOT cause negative effects in you. If I had taken it and passed out, instead of improved, it would have been an unwise choice.
It does not matter what a patient takes, as long as they follow their doctors orders AND they IMPROVE. That's the goal. If it takes 4 mg of Xanax or 10, if the person is improving, it is a success.
It has a bad rep because people who don't need it have used it. Very few of us need it. Yet it is prescribe commonly. But those of us who do need it, it is the link between bedridden with fear and able to live a life.
Most people.spend decades with doctors taking this and that and doing therapy and still cannot find relief. Those are called medication resistant patients. According to my doctor, 40% of those with panic attacks cannot get relief from anti depressants or other medications and benzo's are our only option.
All you need to do is see your doctor, do exactly as they say, never take more than they prescribe unless you call them and ask, and avoid alcohol and opiates. In people who can do that, and who are not drug addicts, benzo's can do what they were made to do. Save a life.
The saddest thing about it is that people who wanted to have "fun" used it to party and did things, terrible things, and never remembered. In high doses you can get amnesia. But....they we're wrong. Those who need it should not be punished for the actions of irresponsible people. The drugs in this class do not deserve the reputation they have. It clearly says...do no drink alcohol with this medicine on my bottle. If I did, and I died, Xanax would be blamed. When, really, it would be my own stupidity to blame.

I am 41 years old and have had anxiety my whole life. I have tried more natural remedies than I can count as well as several prescription drugs. I have found that detoxing the body, switching to organics/non gmo food, and getting a goal works the best. I would say stay busy and work on your goal as much as you can.
Im currently on Bupropion (Welbutrin), Busiprone (Buspar) and Ambien and Im talking all the generic brand!
Ive been on Bupropion for 2 and half years Buspirone for 1 1/2 years and ambien for about 7 months!
I dont feel like the buspirone is doing any good or has done any good and the buproprion is giving weigh too
However I found a medication paxil that helps with depression, anxiety panic disorder all in one! Also not to mention im addicted to porn and find myself using that and masturbating daily when watching it and I dont like it but its hard to stop, however one of the side effects of SSRI is sexual disfunction which you dont feel like any sexual activity and I feel like thats what I need
How do you like Paxil? What are other medications which helps to treat all the depression and anxiety symptoms in all!
Elavil helps with panic, anxiety, depression and sleep all in one. Amitrypteline or however you spell it.
Who's taking? The OP? That post is 8 years old. Someone else in the thread? Either way, pretty overconfident recommendation to make based on a couple of posts on C-D. Such a brilliant diagnostician!

I take trazadone as a sleep aide, though I am told it is primarily for depression and anxiety. I also have on occasion had low-level anxiety and I'm not comfortable in groups, so it may be helping me with that. The best one to talk with about your medications is your doctor.
