Even if CBT and therapy don't seem to be cutting it, the combination of those plus a low dose of a medication might make a significant difference. IME, medication helps create an emotional buffer within which you can do the mental work that needs doing. Meds don't replace the work but they can make it more tolerable.
Why does it have to be an Either Or with what helps people? Do BOTH! Find a good psychiatrist for medication along with a good social worker or psychologist. By “good”, I mean good for you.
