I have one now that gives me unwanted advice. I’d like to switch but the few places I called they do not take new patients.
On top of it all my depression and anxiety are worse than ever before. The upcoming winter is making my mood even worse.
Is it clinical depression or situational depression? There is a major difference you do know that? I struggled with clinical depression for 10 yrs and not helped by MD's for thyroid issues, I deep down believed it was thyroid and they kept telling me, "your number are fine"...bull, I am not a number and it is sad so many go by the numbers.

I was told years ago that psychiatrists no longer do therapy, they just dispense meds. They prescribe and then send you to an LCSW or other type of therapist for talk therapy.
I hear you about winter. I have S.A.D. and unfortunately live in an area where it never seems to stop raining or being cloudy. It's been winter all year where I live. I'm literally at my wit's end with it at the moment.
Went looking for a therapist recently. Very difficult to locate someone. Psychiatrists aren't taking new patients, or if they are, they don't take Medicare. I'm fully insured with Medicare - 100% - so I don't get that, but whatever. If they don't want the income, that's their prerogative. Very frustrating though. I hope you find someone.

I was just reading another thread here on CD about the shortage of mental health professionals. A person very dear to me has been struggling with severe depression, and finding wait-lists for every therapist he contacts. I myself am being treated, and doing ok most days, but not always.
Sometimes just having anyone to talk to can help. You're already here on CD, so feel free to share, vent, and ask questions right here. I like to think that the caring posters here are better than nothing. A lot of us here are struggling with either clinical or situational depression, or both.
There would be a lot less need for therapists if we didn't live in the age of medicalization of everyday problems of living. This in turn has caused, IMO, a snowball effect where people are less willing to be a part of that village, and they can feel justified in just saying "you need to see a doctor".
Most times, people don't need a doctor. But they go anyway, because they think they have little choice. And for many that's a slippery slope of ever changing-increasing medication once they get on it.

What do you mean "he gives me UNWANTED advice"?
If you have problems AND want to get better, then some of the advice might be against your own beliefs. You could be in denial about your own state of mind. You want your psychiatrist to only tell you things you WANT to hear?
That supposed to be helpful?

I assume this psychiatrist that you don't care for is the one administering your meds? or are you in therapy with this person? Or both? You aren't clear and it makes a difference.
Have you considered adding Abilify or Rexulti to what you are already taking? Rexulti did not help me but Abilify seems to have made a substantial difference.

I see a psychiatrist and a therapist
