So, Mrshvo, any updates you can give us? I do hope all is well.
Thanks for asking; I have just been reading as people have posted. Actually, I haven't seen any change yet. Then again, his behavior isn't an issue at home. As for school, his teacher has mentioned that she thinks she has seen him able to keep on task slightly better...but it isn't such a drastic change; it could just be a good week, which he has had.
But I haven't seen any negative aspects, and I do ask him daily how he has felt. I am thinking it is such a small dosage that it might be too small to do anything negative, or positive.
I am willing to give anything a try...being as I have tried all else except for meds, until now. But the second I see anything drastic on the negative downside, I will discontinue it. I might try another kind as I am trying to make him successfully in school. Not academically, I would never drug my child to try to make him a genius, luckily I don't have to-his grades have always been high. I just mean successful as being able to control himself and not scream for no reason, run around or wander around the room, be hands on with other children, and so on.
Please also keep in mind most of the misbehavioral reports WILL come from school. Even for non- ADD children it's hard to sit & be quiet as expected for 7 hours. Nowadays alot of schools even have silent lunchrooms (ridiculous). ADD aren't sick. They think differently & are not going to conform and become mainstream. It is VERY important to keep that in mind and find a school that can place your child with their most qualified teacher. Schools also get kickbacks for diagnosed ADD or Special Needs children. They get a tad money hungry.
Here are some helpful classroom hints.
Be sure your childs desk is up front & he is NOT sitting next to another ADD child.
Choose 2 days a week that they're to clean out their desk. Weds & Fri is usually best.
Send plenty of well marked subject notebooks & pencil type containers.
Most ADD children are HANDS ON & will require a more direct approach to learning. They won't usually listen then DO!
Communicate with the teacher constantly. Email's great.
Most IMPORTANTLY! Have a daily task log. One notebook that the child write all of his assignments in DAILY that by days end the teacher checks & signs. Then he brings it home for you to check & sign! They work wonders.
Finally, make sure the teacher knows you will NOT put up with her embarrassing or isolating the child. At all!

The notebook of assignments worked great for us while our son was in elementary, but once he got into middle school the support stopped. They kept telling us that he needed to mature and they are not allowed to hold their hand. Yes, I went off on them (including the principal) but it wasn't long things went right back to the way they were.
It's tough, Mrshvo, but hang in there. As long as you put up a fight for what is right by your child, his education, things will work out. Yes I have to voice often, but legally they have to work with you!
Adderall contains the same appetite suppressant as most diet pills, so I am wondering why he GAINED weight? SOme doctors even put people of Adderall to LOSE weight (although that is considered off-label use). I am wondering why your son gained? did the doctors have an explanation for that?
