For most people, alcohol is a good sleep INITIATOR, but not a good sleep prolonger. That's why most people can go to sleep easily after some moderate drinking, but then wake up in the middle of the night, and have a more disturbed sleep after that. It definitely messes up REM sleep and deep sleep, so if there's chronic drinking of large amounts a person will not be as refreshed by sleep. However I don't think that applies to having just a glass of wine or a couple of beer, that probably wouldn't screw up things.

I sleep great after a few beers and half a bottle of whiskey. I dream I am flying on the back of a orange weasel and I am wearing a fuzzy hat. I wake up energetic and take a can of spray on pancakes and spray my dog.
