If you think the general population can ever be policed rigidly enough to be prevented from using any unauthorized substances, your grand children are going to have something a lot worse than drugs to get used to.

The war on drugs is a war on freedom and individual choice. Anyone who advocates such a war is an enemy of the intrinsic human right of self-determination.

Such an attitude becomes simplistic when you consider how drug users often impacts the rights of others. For example, I was rear-ended at 50 MPH while I was stopped at an intersection – the driver was high on drugs and didn't even see me. My car was spun into oncoming traffic and five cars were totaled.

Talking about the 'right' to use drugs is just half of the equation... the other half is about 'responsibilities' of those drug users in an interdependent world.

That's right and we need to get all the people off the roads who might have stokes or heart attacks while driving, people who are too stupid to hit the brake instead of the accelerator, anyone who gets distracted, all old people, anyone who might have a tire blow out and especially anyone who drinks alcohol.

You can't prevent all possible harm by banning everything that could possibly lead to any sort of harm.
Why not ban knives then - sometimes people chop their fingers off while chopping onions!

It's the law of diminishing returns. The cost of improvement exceeds the value of the increment.

But I think the poster meant that there ought to be a society in which drug use is decriminalized, obviating the need for a "war" on non-criminal behavior.
